At the launch in Los Angeles, Elon Musk told his audience: “Driving a gasoline sportscar is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche.”
In a surprise announcement made during the launch of the Tesla Semi, Elon Musk showed us the new Tesla Roadster, claiming 0-60 in 1.9s, making it the fastest accelerating road car in the world.
Other astonishing performance claims are 0-100 mph in 4.2s and the quarter mile dash in 8.8s.
Top speed is claimed at 250 mph and range at 620 miles. This is aimed squarely at knocking the Bugatti Chiron off the top step of the world’s fastest supercar contest.
It’s still three years from production, says TESLA, but they are taking $50,000 deposits now, with the first 1000 ‘Founders Series’ cars selling for a projected $250,000. Price for the production car is said to be around £150,000.
